THE Zimbabwe under-20 rugby team is through to the final of the Barthes Trophy after thumping Tunisia 60-6 in a semifinal played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi this Wednesday.

The Young Sables continued with their red-hot form at the ongoing Barthes Trophy in Kenya after notching ten tries against a hapless Tunisia side.

The North Africans started strongly and put the Zimbabweans under pressure before winger Edward Sigauke scored a try against the run-off play in the 11th minute.

Sigauke ran over again before fullback Simbarashe Kanyangarara added another try with Brendon Marume coming up with the conversions as Zimbabwe took a 22-6 halftime lead after Tunisia managed a drop goal.

Zimbabwe who are the defending champions then turned the heat in the second half, scoring 38 unanswered points as the midfield pairing of Alex Nyamunda and Dion Khumalo took over the game.

“I am very happy with the result, we played just watching the rain as we knew it was going to come but I am glad our game plan worked well and we managed to contain the physical Tunisians going forward we will work on our weaknesses as we aim to defend the title nothing else in mind.”

Retaining the continental title will see Zimbabwe qualify for the Junior World Cup.
