Zimbabwe cricket national team beat Nigeria

Story by Anashe Murombedzi

THE Zimbabwe Cricket national team, the Chevrons, kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup after beating Nigeria by six wickets at the ongoing World Cup Qualifier played in Windhoek, Namibia, this Wednesday.

After a slow start to the tournament, the Chevrons have picked up and now posting routine victories.

The tournament was supposed to be a stroll in the park for a country of Zimbabwe’s stature but they bungled at the beginning, losing to host Namibia and minnows Uganda.

However, Zimbabwe have discovered their winning formula and this Wednesday the atmosphere was charged with excitement after beating Nigeria by six wickets.

Nigeria won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 110 runs and losing eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Captain Sikandar Raza led from the front after scoring his tenth half a century in the T20 forma as he led Zimbabwe to an easy victory.

Zimbabwe crossed the victory line in the 14th over as their innings concluded with 111 runs for a loss of four wickets.

The Chevrons need to beat Kenya this Thursday to keep alive their slim hopes of making it to the T20 World Cup.
