Zimbabwe confident of retaining ZDF Trophy

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

MEMBERS of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces select side will take on their Malawian counterparts in the annual Zimbabwe Defence Forces Trophy at the National Sports Stadium this Tuesday.

The match between the two defence forces select sides will put the icing on the cake during commemorations to mark Defence Forces Day.

Zimbabwe will be looking to retain the trophy after overcoming Botswana Defence Forces last year.

The Zimbabwe select side will be led by coach, Stephen Mapepa who is being assisted by Charles Mutero of Black Rhinos.

The technical department has selected players from Army teams like Black Rhinos, Cranborne Bullets, Buffaloes, Commando Bullets and Chapungu as well as other army officers who play for Premier Soccer League teams.

The players in the team include defender Collin Kwaramba who is on loan at Sheasham from Chapungu as well as Gracious Mleya, Tatenda Muchisa and Kudakwashe Nyakudanga from Black Rhinos.

Vincent Mhandu and Tawanda Gonese are also in the team.

On the other hand, Malawi Defence Forces draws its players from four military teams Kamuzu Barracks, Mafco, Red Lions and Moyale Barracks

The ZDF select played their Malawian counterparts in 2018 when Brighton Mugoni’s first-half goal was enough to clinch the Trophy at the National Sports Stadium.
