The 2024 Zimbabwe Open Golf Championship teed off this Thursday at Royal Harare Golf Club with seven former champions taking to the majestic course.

In a star-studded field, Scott Vincent showed his class as he ended the day tied for third position at five under par.

Vincent had six birdies and had he not bogeyed the final round he would have finished in second position.

“It’s good to be back home after a long while I enjoyed my game, and I am looking to just continue improving as we through the tournament,” said Vincent.

While Vincent is leading the country’s hopes another local player Ben Folliet Smith is not too far behind at two under while Kieran Vincent, Matthew Bramford and Biggie Chibvuri are at one under with Robson Chinhoi at level par.

South African Jaco Althers leads after the first round at seven under while former champion Darren Fitchardt, Jacques Blauuw and Micheal Hollick are tied for second.

The seven former champions who are vying for another Zim Open glory include last year’s winner Neil Schietekat who is back to defend his title.

2022 winner Albert Venter is also taking part as well as JC Ritchie who won in 2017 Lyle Rowe (2016), Jean Hugo (1999), Darren Fichardt (2001) and two-time champion Jbe’ Kruger.
