Zimbabwe Under 19 women’s cricket team has left the country for the inaugural International Cricket Council Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup starting in South Africa next week.
The Young Lady Chevrons are bubbling with confidence ahead of the first-ever global tournament of the women’s version on the cricket scene.
The tournament will roar into life on the 14th of this month in South Africa and ends on the 29th.
Coach Trevor Phiri is satisfied with his 15-member team’s preparations.
“Our last camp was very successful because we managed to cover all areas we wanted to improve and we are well prepared what we have to do is to play our game and take each game at a time because we haven’t played any of our opponents. This will be a good step for our women in cricket to show their talent and play at the international level which will give them exposure,” he said.
The team will be led by 17-year-old Kelis Ndhlovu and Michelle Mavunga.
Zimbabwe is in Pool B, alongside Rwanda, England and Pakistan.
The Young Lady Chevrons will begin their group stage campaign with a tough encounter against England on the 15th of this month before taking on continental rivals Rwanda two days later, while the last group match is against Pakistan on the 19th.
The top 3 teams from each group will progress to the Super Six.
