THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association is using the three-day Zimbabwe Open Volleyball tournament, which is underway in Bulawayo, to assess the teams’ readiness ahead of the commencement of the national league.
It was volleyball action galore at Hillside Teachers College in Bulawayo this Friday as the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association staged a first tournament post its annual general meeting last month.
With a number of new players taking part in the tournament, the coaches are upbeat that the tournament will unearth volleyball talent.
“Despite our hustles in travelling, we started our campaign well by beating MSU 2-1. The players are now looking forward to leaving an indelible mark in the tournament,” said UZ Wolves men’s coach, Tsungiriro Shumba.
Shallom Victoria Falls coach, Mthulisi Mlilo said, “We are happy there are new teams this time around which is good for the growth of the sport. As Shalom, we want to give our best in this tournament.”
The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association says the Zimbabwe Open tournament will give a clear picture of the readiness of participating teams ahead of the commencement of the national league at a date yet to be announced.
The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association last year took the sports code to all corners of the country, a move which generated a lot of interest in the sport and resulted in many new teams joining the league.
