Story by Jerold Sasa

THE Zimbabwe Special Olympics says it is ready to take part in the International Special Olympic Games set for Germany in June this year.

With only three months left before the International Special Olympic Games scheduled for Berlin, Germany from the 17th to the 25th of June, the Zimbabwean team says it is geared for the games and has already secured venues for training for its 12 athletes who will take part in athletics, bocce and golf.

Mashonaland East will be represented by one athlete Sharon Gosa and coach Tabeth Sibanda who were part of a group of athletes, officials and stakeholders honoured for their performance in 2022 at an awards ceremony held in Marondera this Wednesday.

Special Olympics Director of Sport, John Muringani noted, ‘‘we are ready for the games as we have already started our preparations and we promise more medals this time.’’

Coach Lilian Chawatama said, ‘As a province, we are happy we are going to be represented as well which is a great honour.’’

The government has called on stakeholders to come on board to support Special Olympics.

In 2019, Zimbabwe won 15 medals, 9 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze at the Special Olympics games held in Abu Dhabi.
