Sharne Mayers’ stock continues to rise

Story by Anashe Murombedzi

ZIMBABWEAN female cricketer Sharne Mayers’ stock continues to rise internationally after moving to 18th on the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 batting rankings.

Mayers, who is now ranked 18th, is the highest-ranked Zimbabwean on the ICC T20 batting rankings.

The right-handed batter moved two positions up from number 20 to 18 in the just-released ICC Women’s T20 rankings with a rating of 582 points.

The top 20 list is led by Tahlia McGrath of Australia with 801 points.

30-year-old Mayers moved up the world rankings after delivering a masterclass in the bilateral series pitting Thailand and Zimbabwe in Bangkok last month.

Mayers, who is also an international Hockey umpire has been one of the consistent performers for the Lady Chevrons.

She was the highest run scorer during the tour of Thailand with 120 runs in the T20 series.

Although the Lady Chevrons lost in both the T20 and One-day international series, Mayers’ exploits could not be ignored.

Other Zimbabweans on the rankings are Modester Mupachikwa, ranked 36th, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano (41), and Lady Chevrons skipper Mary-Anne Musonda in 46th position.
