BULAWAYO Metropolitan province will stage an eight-team sevens rugby tournament next week to select a provincial team for the Zambezi challenge pencilled for Harare next month.
The Bulawayo provincial Sevens rugby tournament set for Hartfields rugby grounds on 26 August is a platform to shine and earn exposure for players wishing to represent the country in international tournaments.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union Bulawayo Development Coordinator, Busani Ncube expects fierce competition at the tournament that will be used to select the Bulawayo provincial team for the Zambezi challenge set for Harare next month.
“We are ready for the tournament, and we hope that we will select a formidable team for the Zambezi challenge and ultimately the players selected for the provincial team stand a good chance to be selected for the national teams,” said Ncube.
The players have already set their sights on making the cut to the Zambezi challenge set for the 2nd of September.
“I featured twice in the tournament and this time around m targeting to qualify and represent Bulawayo,” said a rugby player, Lawrence Mutekiwa.
Another rugby player, Eric Mpofu said, “We have been preparing very well for the tournament and we feel motivated to represent our province and be selected for the national team.”
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will for the first time host the Olympic qualifiers in Harare from the 16th to the 17th of September.
