Rahman Gumbo set to be buried on Saturday

Story by Mthokozisi Dube

THE body of the late Warriors and Highlanders legend, Rahman Gumbo who died in Botswana last week, has arrived in Bulawayo for burial at Lady Stanley Cemetery on Saturday.

A legend in his own right, Gumbo, who was accorded a State-assisted funeral, got a befitting welcome on his final lap in Bulawayo where the crowd confirmed his influence through the beautiful game.

“We saw it fit to welcome him from Plumtree because we loved him a lot. Our hearts are in great pain,” said a Rush fan.

Another said, “We are devastated, we will always remember Rush.”

Former Warriors goalkeeper, Energy Murambadoro recalls Gumbo giving him his first Premier League debut at CAPS United.

“It is a very sad day for our football after losing Rush and George Chigova. He is the man who gave me a PSL debut while I was coming from rural Gokwe. We will ever miss him,” said Madamburo.

A memorial service will be held for the late Dr Rush at the Amphitheatre in Bulawayo this Friday before burial on Saturday.
