LEAGUE debutants Platinum Royals have set the Zimbabwe Women Super League alight, with the Zvishavane-based side riding on a wave of success which has seen them emerge as a force to reckon with.
The platinum miners claimed their biggest scalp in their short stay in the league after getting the better of former champions Black Rhinos Queens 2-1 away at One Commando in Harare last Saturday.
With their men’s club, FC Platinum dominating the local Premier Soccer League in recent years, Platinum Royals seem to have mastered the game in the area of investing in experienced hands after bringing in seasoned former Mighty Warriors coach Sithetelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda to lead the side in their debut campaign.
The victory over Black Rhinos Queens took their points tally to 18 from eight matches, just four points behind log leaders Herentals, who have 22 points.
In other matches, defending champions Herentals beat Yadah two-nil to move to the top of the log, while Chapungu thrashed Black Mambas eight-nil at Morris Depot.
Faith Drive eased to a three-nil victory over Queen Lozikeyi, while Maningi Youth Academy walked over Shine Shine which did not turn up at Ngoni Stadium.
After the weekend’s action, Herentals are at the top with 22 points, followed by Harare City who are a point behind, same as third-placed Chapungu Queens with Black Rhinos concluding the top four with 19 points.
Conduit Soccer Academy anchor the log with a paltry two points, while Shine Shine Queens, Queen Lozikeyi and Borrow Jets all have three points apiece.
