Story by Raynald Ngwarati, Sports Reporter

NGEZI Platinum Stars have added another piece of silverware to their collection after being crowned the Castle Challenge Cup champions for the first time after thumping Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos by two goals to nil at Baobab Stadium this Saturday.

The Mhondoro-based side who are yet to get through the hangover of lifting the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League trophy, added to their ecstasy by kicking off 2024 with a bang.

Ngezi would not have hoped for a better opponent to open up the 2024 season with, as they had unfinished business from the Chibuku Super Cup and had revenge as their top priority going into the affair.

The plot worked for Takesure Chiragwi’s charges as they got the breakthrough just before the break courtesy of a Claude Mapoka finish in the 41st minute.

Mapoka capitalised on an error by the Dynamos’ defence, to set alight Baobab Stadium whilst also getting the first goal of the 2024 domestic season.

Ellison Mweha had the simple task of sealing the game for the Mhondoro-based outfit, scoring in the 71st minute to put the game beyond doubt.

The Genesis Mangombe-coached side, helplessly watched as Ngezi claimed a two-nil victory before lifting the Castle Challenge Cup to ensure they reign supreme in the domestic competitions.

It was a perfect start for Ngezi who plotted and executed a sweet revenge, while it is back to the drawing board for Dynamos who had the agony of losing out on the opening day of the domestic calendar.
