Glamorgan county cricket side arrive in Zim Wednesday evening

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

GLAMORGAN will be the first of the two English County cricket sides to arrive for their pre-season when they touch down at the Robert Mugabe International Airport later this Wednesday evening.

This will be Glamorgan’s visit to the country in more than 20 years.

The first visit was in 1991 when the Welsh county played a first-class friendly against the national team, as well as taking part in a limited-overs friendly against Worcestershire.

Glamorgan also visited Zimbabwe in April 1995 when they staged games against Matabeleland and other local teams.

This year Glamorgan will be based in Harare and will be joined by Durham, who are expected in Harare on Thursday.

The visitors will play against local select sides across three formats.

The pre-season tour will start off with Durham facing Southerns at Harare Sports Club, while Glamorgan takes on Northerns in three-day action at Old Hararians Sports Club.

This will be followed by six T20 matches set for the 8th, 9th and 10th March at Harare Sports Club, with two matches being played per day.

Four 50-over games pencilled for the 12th and 14th of March will then wrap up the tour.

Durham last visited Zimbabwe together with Derbyshire in March 2020, but that tour had to be cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
