14-year-old Chicken Inn sensation Awakhiwe Tshalibe has set his sights on becoming the youngest player to play in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The 14-year-old made his mark while representing Zimbabwe at the COSAFA African Schools Championship held at Gateway High School in December last year.
When he was given a debut appearance for Chicken Inn last month during the Provincial Independence Cup, the crowd kept calling up his name as the teenager showed some flashes of what lies ahead.
The Gamecocks registered 14-year-old Awakhiwe Tshalibe as part of the junior quota for the 2024 season.
Rubbing shoulders with the best in the premier league has motivated the rising start to start dreaming.
“It has been good to be part of the squad and I am happy the seniors are guiding me. My intention is to become the youngest player to play in a big league like the EP,” he said.
Chicken Inn Head Coach Joey Antipas believes with proper management the boy can go far.
“Awakhiwe is a good player. He should keep his cool. We know what he is made of. Our hope is for the big to remain calm, keep cool as he nurtures his career. We hope his handlers will guide the boy,” he noted.
The Mpopoma High school student who is turning 15 this year has been with the Chicken Inn juniors and was this year voted into the COSAFA Schools championship team of the tournament.
