GOVERNMENT has commissioned more than 90 service vehicles to enhance the operations of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).
This comes as the Second Republic continues to prove its commitment to improving justice delivery in Zimbabwe.
Commissioning the vehicles that include court trucks, escort vehicles and minibuses, the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi said President Mnangagwa’s administration has taken a deliberate stance to improve justice delivery in the country.
“When His Excellency came, one of the main pillars that he believed in is access to justice and that is the pillar that we are in. Prisons did not have any vehicles and he promised to improve conditions and what we are witnessing is a delivery of his promise,” he said.
ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu summed up the importance of vehicles in improving efficiency.
“I want to thank His Excellency for honouring his promise because he promised that he was going to look into issues of the prisons. The vehicles will enhance our operations and make sure that our courts are serviced timeously. People would say the prisons are not mobile but now we will make sure prisoners are taken to court,” he said.
The vehicles will be deployed to all provinces alongside farming equipment which is expected to benefit the ZPCS’ agriculture department.
