THE ruling ZANU PF party has reaffirmed its commitment to the development of Matabeleland North, with the 600-megawatt Hwange Thermal Power Station Unit 7 and 8 being one of the flagship projects executed by the Second Republic in the province.
Home to the mighty Victoria Falls, the Hwange Thermal Power Station, Hwange National Park, and Binga Sun beaches, Matabeleland North Province is a key contributor to the national Gross Domestic Product.
With President Emmerson Mnangagwa set to commission the Hwange Unit 7 and 8 as well as the Binga coal project next week, ZANU PF Vice President and Second Secretary, General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who addressed scores of ZANU PF supporters at Cross Dete in Hwange East this Wednesday, said the ruling party-led government is on a drive to ensure the country becomes energy self-sufficient.
Vice President Chiwenga also highlighted that the Hwange community will benefit from the Deka Water pipeline project and the Gwai Shangani Lake which is set to create a green belt in Matabeleland North.
The Second Republic is also rehabilitating the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls and Karoi-Binga roads, among others, to modernise the road network in the province.
The people of Hwange have applauded the development trajectory that has led to job creation and improved livelihoods.
Other issues that emerged at the rally include strides made to develop the education, health, and agricultural sectors in the province as well as the message of peace during the election period.
