President Mnangagwa urges Zimbabweans to shame detractors

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

ZANU PF President and First Secretary, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged party supporters to remain vigilant and shame detractors who wish for chaos in Zimbabwe by remaining peaceful before, during and after elections.

With only two days before the August 23 General elections, the ruling ZANU PF party concluded its star rallies in style as thousands turned out for their Saturday campaign in Shurugwi.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans must remain vigilant and shame detractors who have been wishing for chaos in the country during this election period.

“We must remain vigilant and shame our detractors who wish for chaos in this country, shame them by being peaceful. Zimbabwe is a unitary state, and no one can divide us,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe has been under illegal sanctions for the past 23 years, and, this has taught citizens to be innovative.

“For the past 23 years, the US and its Western allies imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe. Initially, they gave us headaches, but later on, they taught us to think outside the box, we are developing our country at all levels. Look at what is happening to our food security, under sanctions we have moved from US$2 billion to US$8 billion in the mining sector,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa also urged election observers to stick to their terms of reference.

“We have nothing to hide that is why we invited everyone to come and observe our elections. We welcome them to our great country, and they must enjoy our hospitality, but they must abide by their terms of reference. I am aware of a few individuals with sinister motives, give us our due respect as a nation,” said President Mnangagwa.

Zimbabweans decide on their leadership this Wednesday when they vote for a president, national assembly members and councillors.
