THE ruling ZANU PF party has called upon people of Mabvuku Tafara constituency in Harare to vote with development in mind come Saturday’s by-election.
With only two days before the December 9 by-election, the ZANU PF leadership this Wednesday conducted a polling centre based campaign in Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency to drum up support for candidate Pedzai Sakupwanya.
The party spokesperson, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa pleaded with the electorate to choose a party that has a development track record.
“You have an opportunity on Saturday to redeem yourselves, you have had years of neglect poor service provision while the ruling party has a blueprint that is focused on making Harare a world class city. He is changing towns. What Scott is doing is exactly what the president expects. Towns are not there for housing alone,” he said.
He also spoke against corrupt activities, which he said have characterised urban councils.
“When the opposition got into power they were focused on accommodation, which is not the case always, they began stealing land. Land barons are all over here irregular settlements are prevalent, the urban areas are for industrial growth which has slowed down here. Choose a leader who can restore that.”
ZANU PF’s Pedzai Sakupwanya will battle it out for the vacant Mabvuku-Tafara constituency seat.
Meanwhile, the electorate in Bulawayo constituencies say they will vote for a people centred and development-oriented leader to represent them.
Voters in Cowdray Park say they are going to vote for a leader who is not alien to them, but one who understands their plight and is capable of working towards the development of the constituency.
“When we go to vote on Saturday, we are going to vote for someone who understands our problems because we trust he will best represent us knowing very well what we go through.
“The leader we need is one who will push for the development of our constituency, we have many grievances here in Cowdray Park that we would like our leader to assist us with such as water, sewage systems, empowerment of women as well as helping curb gender-based violence. As we ready ourselves to go and vote, we are going to vote for someone who will understand that we need change in Cowdray Park, someone who will not forget once elected and will address all our issues in parliament,” said members of the community.
Cowdray Park constituency is among the five constituencies in Bulawayo that will be having by-elections, with two candidates vying for the National Assembly seat, namely Cde Arthur Mujeyi representing ZANU PF, and Mr Vusumuzi Chirwa of CCC.
