PARLIAMENT reconvened this Friday to receive for debate the ZEC preliminary delimitation report which was tabled before the house by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi.

This is after ZEC submitted the report to President Emmerson Mnangagwa late last month, who then summoned parliament for an extraordinary sitting to debate the contents of the report in line with the constitution.

“Today we sat for Parliament to receive the preliminary delimitation report in terms of section 161 of the constitution. Parliament was summoned by the President. I came with the report and laid it on the table so that the Parliament can then consider it and come up with further recommendations they can transmit to the President in line with the constitution,’’ said Honourable Ziyambi.

Meanwhile, Parliament has also set up an ADHOC committee to analyse and help legislators unpack the ZEC preliminary report and will present its findings to the house of the assembly when Parliament resumes debate on January 13.

The 13-member ADHOC committee comprises members from the three parties represented in parliament and is chaired by ZANU PF Chief Whip, Honourable Pupurai Togarepi.

Honourable Togarepi said, ‘‘we will consider whether the document conforms with the constitution. We are going to start sitting and analysing the report. The report from the Adhoc committee will be the nucleus of the debate that will commence on January 13.’’

The ADHOC committee’s recommendations will be presented to the National Assembly for further debate on January 13, after which resolutions culminating from the debate in both the lower and upper houses will be submitted to the President for onward recommendations and transmission to ZEC.
