Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo elected Victoria Falls mayor

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

THE resort city of Victoria Falls has a new mayor after Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change was voted into office in an election which was marred by controversy.

The election was on Tuesday last week disrupted by disgruntled residents who were irked by the presence of Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Councillor Donaldson Mabutho whom they accused of having been assigned by the CCC leadership to impose a mayoral candidate.

Victoria Falls Town Clerk, Mr Ronnie Dube then wrote to the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Winston Chitando for guidance, resulting in the elections being held this Monday.

The mayoral election had a false start earlier this Monday amid reports of confusion on the choice of candidates.

Councillor Moyo will be deputised by Councillor Lungile Nyoni.
