THE People’s Republic of China and Russia have congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa after his re-election in the August 23 general elections.
In a statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin said China is ready to work with the new government in propelling the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
He added that China sent an observer mission to Zimbabwe and believes the elections were held in a peaceful environment with active participation by the people.
Mr Wang maintained that the Asian giant respects the choice of the Zimbabwean people and wishes the country continued stability and greater progress in pursuing national development and prosperity.
Russia has also sent its congratulatory message saying the election results demonstrate wide support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s thrust towards strengthening statehood and ensuring domestic stability.
Moscow’s Foreign Ministry reiterated Russia’s principled commitment to further develop a comprehensive partnership and mutually advantageous cooperation with Zimbabwe in international and regional affairs.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Tamer Almassri has wished President Mnangagwa success in achieving the goals of people’s prosperity, and development and pledged continuous cooperation for the best interests of the two friendly countries.
President Mnangagwa was re-elected for a second five-year term with the election results being announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on Saturday.
