Of staged ‘abductions’ & summits

Article by Webster Mukunu

The Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC), true to character, has once again staged yet another ‘abduction’ ahead of the continuation of the SADC Extra-Ordinary Summit on 4 November 2023, which was adjourned on 31 October 2023.

To that end, the CCC in a poorly choreographed video clip that it has been circulating, CCC legislator, Denford Ngadziore, claims to being pursued by state security agents, whom he latter claimed abducted him, stripped him of his clothes, beat him up and injected him with an unknown substance, before dumping him in Criston Bank, Mazowe.

Reacting to the choreographed episode, CCC spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi posted on X, *“In the midst of the storm, he was brave enough to record & expose them. We salute his courage & quick thinking under near fatal circumstances. A police report will be made. This is yet another example of the ongoing wanton lawlessness that has gripped Zimbabwe since the advent of the sham election of the 23rd of August 2023. The only way to proceed is for SADC to facilitate a Transitional Authority that will restore law & order in Zimbabwe & work towards the consummation of a fresh, free & fair election.”*

It is laughable, and indeed idiotic, for the CCC to continue with its scripted choreographed ‘abduction’ drama repeatedly, despite it not yielding the desired outcome, serve to create a storm in a tea cup.

The CCC has not learnt anything from past staged melodrama. Recently, the CCC staged yet another ‘abduction’ of former CCC Mabvuku/Tafara legislator, James Chidhakwa, ahead of the 31 October 2023 SADC Extra-Ordinary Summit, which summit it hoped would centre on its false claims of a ‘sham’ election and alleged repression.

As has been the norm, SADC saw through the yarn and proceeded to endorse and congratulate President Emmerson Mnangagwa for holding an exemplary election, which should be emulated by other countries as it was a true victory for democracy.

Having learnt nothing from the foregoing, and still smarting from the SADC endorsement, hoping against hope, the CCC has once again outdone itself, this time through Ngadziore ahead of the 4 October 2023 SADC Extra-Ordinary Summit.

This again will fail. Stupidity is the art of doing the same thing again and again, hoping for a different result. The Summit will come and go.

The choreographed ‘abduction’ of Ngadziore will be ignored as SADC deals with substantive issues such as the budgetary support for SADC’s military deployment in strife-stricken Demecratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mkwananzi inadvertently let the cat out of the bag by requesting SADC to pave way for a Transitional Authority, an Ibbo Mandaza idea, to smuggle CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa into government, citing the Ngadziore ‘abduction.’

Zimbabweans elected their President, legislators and councillors through an election that was endorsed by SADC, the AU and the UN. No amount of tomfoolery by sore losers will detract from this position.

Creativity is a science woefully lacking in the CCC. It uses the same script – abductions, tortures CCC targets, strips them naked, injects them with an unknown substance, dumps them on the outskirts of Harare, does not report to the Police, rushes to social media, tag western embassies, siphons donor money for the alleged victims, start again.

They have done it with Chidhakwa, Joanna Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri, Gonyet, Dr Peter Magombeyi, Netsai Marowa, among others. The list is endless.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is marching towards Vision 2030.
