ZPCS officially opens Chikurubi Secondary School

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) says it will continue supporting the country’s education sector.

Since 2020, learners at Chikurubi Secondary School Prison Camp have been conducting lessons under temporary structures and at times learning activities were disrupted.

The challenges are now things of the past after the construction of classroom blocks by the ZPCS and the community is appreciative of the government’s gesture.

“The construction of this school will go a long way in supporting the education system, especially in our district. For years, our learners were facing some difficulties because the structures were not good. So, we are excited by this latest development,” said a community member.

“We expect that we are going to see an improvement in terms of pass rate,” said another community member.

Officially opening the school and handing over sporting kits to other 15 ZPCS schools in Harare on Thursday, ZPCS Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu says his organisation will continue supporting the government in the education sector.

“The rising of Chikurubi Secondary School stands as a clear demonstration of ZPCS’s commitment to supporting the government to educate the nation by ensuring inclusivity where no place and no one will be left behind. This in turn guarantees the socio-economic development of the nation.

“Turning on to the students of this newly established institution, it is evident that today marks a new episode in your lives and this is an opportunity for shaping your future. Lest we forget, education is not all about textbooks and examinations, but it is about holistic growth. You must therefore embrace this chance with open hearts and open minds for this school will be your guiding and navigational compass that leads you to an endless path of self-discovery, personal growth and positive transformation,” he said.

Since its inception, the Second Republic has been implementing several infrastructural projects such as road rehabilitation, dam and schools construction as part of the journey towards fulfilling Vision 2030.
