TRADE between Zimbabwe and Australia has improved over the past five years as a result of a conducive operating environment created by the Second Republic.
This was said by the outgoing Australian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Ms Bronte Moules when she paid a courtesy call on the Acting President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga in Harare this Thursday.
After almost five years in the country facilitating trade partnerships in various sectors of the economy between Zimbabwe and Australia, Ambassador Moules is winding up her tour of duty with a sense of satisfaction.
“I have just had the pleasure of calling on the Acting President. It was a courtesy farewell as I will be completing my posting to Zimbabwe in a few days after nearly five years,” said Ambassador Moules.
“During my whole time here, the investment agenda has been a big part of what we do as an embassy. We have some strong complementarities in our economies, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors where we both have strong interests so it’s something where we are seeing some companies investing already, particularly in the mining sector but there is potential for more and it is something that we encourage.
“There is a lot of interest and in our discussions here, we certainly have good discussions about how to make the business operating environment as enabling as possible. We need to secure predictable transparent fair operating environments to attract business and we hope that’s what we can do.”
As she leaves Harare for Canberra, Ambassador Moules has vowed to ensure ongoing projects in areas which include climate change, and maternal and child health continue to thrive
