US$1.4 million Hwange National Park pavilion project to be complete by June

THE US$1.4 million one-stop access pavilion at the Hwange National Park is taking shape with the modern structure expected to be complete by June this year.
The facility which is a joint cooperation between the government of Zimbabwe and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) will give a major facelift to the Hwange National Park while also enhancing revenue collection and improving access to Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve.
Under the agreement, IFAW is funding the entire construction project which comes with staff houses and other critical amenities for ZIMPARKS workers.
“This is a huge project that will advantage Zimparks in a number of ways. Besides revenue collection, it’s also an important conservation approach because when we create order in the national park, it harmonises human-wildlife interaction,” said IFAW Zimbabwe Field Operations Manager, Arnold Tshipa.
The modern pavilion is one of the flagship projects being undertaken by ZIMPARKS and the International Fund for Animal Welfare under a US$50 million partnership.
The architectural designs are being supported by Germany through the German Development Bank under the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area SWAP Project facilitated through the World Wide Fund for Nature.
The tender was awarded to a local company Mak Bokano Contracting.
