HEAVY rains and winds coupled with a hailstorm destroyed Mathetshaneni Primary School in Nkayi this Friday.

The incident took place just a day before the new academic calendar.

“We experienced heavy winds while it was raining and the next thing, we witnessed all this destruction. The buildings roofs were blown off. We have assessed the damage with the SDC and it is very dire,” said villagers who spoke to ZBC News.

“Mathetshaneni School in Nkayi’s Ward 9 was destroyed by strong winds and heavy rains. The teacher’s, cottages,  toilets and pre-school were all destroyed. We envisage a very difficult situation when schools open,” said Ms Matilda Mlotshwa, Nkayi DDC.

The community which is racing to find a solution has also called out to well-wishers for urgent assistance.  Heavy rains being experienced across the country have caused flooding and infrastructure damage.
