Rural women enjoy empowerment

Story by Jerald Sasa

THE government’s rural women empowerment programs continue to bear fruit with women in the Tsunga area of Chikomba West Constituency having had their lives transformed.

Budiriro Bakery Club of Ward 21 Manyame Rural District Council in Chikomba West is a success story of the government’s rural empowerment initiatives meant to transform lives.

Formed in 2021, the club made up of 10 women has defied odds and is currently one of the leading suppliers of confectionary products in Chikomba West.

The women who exhibited their products at the Rural Women’s Day commemorations at Tsunga Primary School in Chikomba West are appreciative of the support they got from the 2nd republic and are appealing for more support to grow their businesses.

Upsound Chatora “We are very happy with the support we have received from our leaders which we hope will continue as we thrive to grow our business,” said a beneficiary, Patience Chatora.

Another beneficiary, Charity Mukwishu said, “At times we have challenges like the market, but we always persevere, and we know we will get there.”

“These empowerment programs are very welcome as they reduced domestic violence,” said Councilor Honey Mufakwadziya.

The government says it will continue to work with rural women to uplift their lives.

Chikomba West Member of Parliament and Minister of ICT, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera said, “We will continue to do all we can so that your projects will continue to grow.”

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Aplonia Munzverengi said, “From what I have seen here this is a clear testimony of the capacity of our women if they are fully supported.”

“I am proud of women from this area who have continued to embrace programs brought by the government and let’s continue with that spirit,” said Seke-Chikomba Member of Parliament, Honourable Tabeth Murwira.

The women also exhibited various products from different empowerment programs supported by the government. They also received tsotso stoves which are environmentally friendly as part of conserving the environment.
