THE joint Parliamentary Committees on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training have been implored to work hard in ensuring the attainment of national aspirations under vision 2030.

Two parliamentary Committees on Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, and Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training held a three day induction workshop to familiarise them with their duties.

Changes brought about by the membership of the 10th parliament necessitated induction workshop tailor-made to equip members with their mandatory constitutional oversight, representation, and legislation.

Guest of honour at the induction workshop, Senate Present, Mabel Chinomona implored committee members to prioritise youth participation across all sectors of the economy.

“This workshop must capacitate you with the desire for an insatiable curiosity to appreciate the myriad of complex issues that government deals with otherwise your effectiveness as portfolio committees in holding the executive to account will be severely constrained if not compromised to the detriment of the citizenry expectations for sound service delivery,” she said.

The Deputy Minister of Sport Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Emily Jesaya, took time to highlight the ministry’s contribution to vision 2030.

“As a ministry we remain supportive in creating an enabling sporting environment. Recently, we had a team that participated in the All Africa Games and the team did fairly well. We are refurbishing facilities in different parts of the country.”

Members of the joint portfolio committees felt empowered after the workshop.

The two committees are guided by the dictates of the African youth charters and agenda 2063, which call for the participation of youths across all sectors of the economy.
