Parly calls for sufficient budget allocation towards information dissemination

Story by Owen Mandovha

THE Parliament has called upon Treasury to fulfil its budgetary propositions towards the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services to improve the government’s information systems and strengthen the capacity of information dissemination entities.

During the Pre-Budget Seminar underway at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Caston Matewu said sufficient budgetary support is key towards the country’s information dissemination efforts.

Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere hinted that it is a new era for the film industry as a new media policy thrust to financially support quality content creation is in the pipeline.

He also reiterated the need to commercialise ZBC operations and other state-owned entities under his ministry to create a modern information society that resonates with an upper-middle-income society.

Dr Muswere promised to adopt a new government approach to ensure that budgetary allocations to the ministry are disbursed and fully utilised to deliver the desired mandate.
