THE Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport’s new look terminal was opened this Saturday as the government continues to enhance aviation infrastructure in line with global standards.

The terminal project is almost complete and sets to expand the Airport’s passenger handling capacity while also increasing employment opportunities for locals.

“It is a great day for the aviation industry in the country. The infrastructure will make Zimbabwe one of the best, it increases capacity from 1.6 million passengers per year to around 6 million per year,” said Airport of Zimbabwe Board Chairperson, Mr Dave Popatlal.

The facility has been welcomed by passengers as a reflection of modernity.

The project dovetails with the National Development Strategy One on enhancing economic growth through an efficient air transport system.

The terminal, which is receiving final touch-ups, is expected to be officially commissioned this month and is a reflection of strong ties between Zimbabwe and China, with the entire airport expansion project coming at an estimated investment cost of around US$153 million.
