THE Dangamvura Water Project being implemented by government in partnership with the African Development Bank has improved water supply in Dangamvura and Gimboki suburbs of Mutare.

The US$1 million project, funded through the devolution programme has come as a huge relief to the people of Mutare after improving supply of the precious liquid in the area.

“The water supply situation has improved compared to the yester year. We however at times can go for two days without water. In the past there was a water crisis as we were resorting to buying water from independent suppliers,” said a Mutare resident.

“We now have water on our taps, but there is need to have water supply every day. In the past we could go for a week without water,” said another.

Mutare City Council acting town clerk, Mr Blessing Chafesuka revealed that the project to upgrade the Dangamvura area three pipeline and extension of water pipe line to cover Gimboki will be completed this year.

“There was a challenge of water supply in Gimboki as the settlement had no water supply infrastructure. We started by upgrading the Dangamvura water pipeline from Christmas Pass feeding tanks at Link road thereby supplying enough water here. Dangamvura area three is connected to water, but the supply is not reliable and we are working on expanding the water pipeline to end the water challenges here. We also hope to ensure water is connected to Gimboki by the end of the year. We have so far invested US$200 000 to upgrade the water pipe line in Dangamvura area three and our partner from Netherlands is assisting us in Gimboki after investing over €200 000 to buy pipes. By the end of this year the projects would have been completed,” he said.

The development being spearheaded by the Second Republic is in line with the call to action by government for local authorities to improve on service delivery.
