Mussina and Beitbridge municipalities moot joint Dulivhadzimu cultural centre

Story by Innocent Nxumalo

AS Beitbridge and South Africa’s Mussina Municipality forge ahead with the twinning programme under the Trans-Limpopo Spatial Development Initiative, the local authorities have agreed to set up a unique Venda Cultural Centre at the famous Dulivhadzimu Gorge.

Mussina Municipality Mayor, Councillor Godfrey Mawela noted, ‘‘We have strong connections as Vha Venda, this border separating us is artificial. We have agreed to have Dulivhadzimu Gorge as a shared cultural village.’’

Beitbridge Municipality Mayor, Councillor Munyaradzi Chitsunge agreed, ‘‘We can realise economic value from culture. Both municipalities on either side are Special Economic Zones and that will propel our twinning programme.’’

Chief Tshitaudze highlighted that cultural centres are a key strategy for securing community heritage for future generations.

‘‘As custodians of culture, we are happy that the Trans-Limpopo Spatial Development initiative embraces culture. This initiative will draw our communities closer together.’’ The local authorities also pledged to expand areas of cooperation to implement immigration-friendly policies at Southern Africa’s busiest port of entry.
