Story by Tapiwa Machemedze

Learners from Mashonaland Central province have commended the strides made in the education sector ahead of the children’s party set for Wednesday in Manicaland Province.

50 learners from various schools in Mashonaland Central Province have departed for the children’s party which will be hosted by President Mnangagwa as a precursor to the independence celebrations.

The learners commended the country’s independence as it has positively affected the education sector, which used to be restricted for black people by the colonialists.

“I am happy with this day which are leaving for Manicaland, as learners its good for us because we got a new curriculum and soon all will be computerised by 2030 which will improve our learning,” said a learner

“We are celebrating independence which the 44th we are going to celebrate and have a chance to learn what is Zimbabwe is and how it came about,” added another.

“We have 50 students comprising junior parliamentarians, junior councillors as well as learners from all schools in Mashonaland central going to Murabinda, Buhera district.”

Mashonaland Central Provincial Education Director, Dr Themba Mangwiro said it was befitting for the province to be well represented after hosting the independence celebrations and the children’s party last year.

“You are blessed to be among the 50 selected from the whole province so I urge you to represent the province well.”

Zimbabwe’s 44th independence celebrations, which are running outside the capital city of Harare for the 3rd consecutive time in line with government’s decentralisation drive, will run under the theme: ‘Zim@44, Unity Peace and Development Towards Vision 2030.’
