Lady Chevrons march to Africa T20 WCQ final

Lady Chevrons march to Africa T20 WCQ final

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

THE Zimbabwe ladies’ cricket team has advanced to the final of the T20 Africa World Cup Qualifier after beating Namibia by 86 runs in Uganda this Saturday.

It was an easy day on the field for the Lady Chevrons who sealed a ticket to the Global qualifier after cruising to a comfortable victory over Namibia at Entebbe Cricket Oval this Saturday.

Precious Marange was the architect of an emphatic victory over Namibia who could only helplessly watch their batsmen falling prey to precise bowling from the Lady Chevrons.

Marange who was voted the player of the match, claimed three scalps for nine runs in her four overs with Josephine Nkomo and Nomvelo Sibanda claiming two wickets apiece as Namibia fell short of Zimbabwe’s score of 150 runs.

After winning the toss, Namibia had done well to restrict the Lady Chevrons to just 150 runs for six in their allotted 20 overs, but their fortunes ran out as soon as they walked to the crease.

Kellies Ndlovu claimed the first scalp before Marange went on her wicket-spree assisted by Nkomo and Sibanda to bowl Namibia out for 64 runs in 16.2 overs.

Meanwhile, their male counterparts who have been experiencing a bad patch will be hoping to overcome their recent woes when they face Ireland at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

The Chevrons trail Ireland one-nil in the three-match series after the first match was washed out by rain before they crashed to a four-wicket defeat in the second match on Friday.

A top-order collapse was once again the highlight of the Chevrons’ showing as Josh Little ripped through Zimbabwe’s helpless openers with his precise attack.

Zimbabwe who lost the T20 series to the visitors will be looking for a change of fortunes on Sunday to level the series one-all, whilst their opponents will be looking to take advantage of Zimbabwe’s slump and grab a two-nil series victory.

Zimbabwe will now take on Uganda in the final although they have sealed a global qualifier which serves as the final stage of qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
