Gwanda’s new constituency centre brings development to the doorstep

Story by Providence Maraneli

THE ruling ZANU PF has embarked on a rigorous campaign to attract investment at constituency level as part of the Second Republic’s community transformation agenda.

Residents in Gwanda are beneficiaries of this campaign following the commissioning of the Gwanda-Tshitaudze Constituency Centre.

The facility has been described as an example of commitment to promote infrastructure development at the constituency level, as it is expected to spearhead development projects in the mining town.

“We built the centre so that we have full-time people that work for the development of the constituency,” said Gwanda-Tshitaudze legislator, Honourable Fisani Moyo.

“This shows seriousness on the part of the legislator. It’s now up to us to support him and make Gwanda great,” said Gwanda-Tshitaudze Constituency Development Committee chairperson, Chief Masuku.

ZANU PF Politburo members who attended the commissioning of the centre this weekend reiterated the ruling party-led government’s commitment to serving communities.

Politburo member, Cde Abednico Ncube said, “We are so happy with what cde Moyo has done, this investment will go a long way in helping communities.”

“Some MPs are of no fixed aboard. Once they are elected, they go quiet, but here in Gwanda you have this centre and it’s critical for development,” said another member, Cde Richard Ndlovu.

Officially commissioning the constituency centre, Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu challenged legislators to attract investment in their constituencies and transform people’s lives for the better.

She said, “There is no one who can develop our Mat South. We should be committed to the cause. We should leave a mark that yesterday I was an MP and we can only do that if we attract investment.”

The constituency centre houses the legislator’s office, boardroom, five administrative offices and a 500-seater community hall.

It will also be used as a youth skills training centre.
