Govt rehabilitating roads in Rusape

Story by Kenias Chivuzhe

THE Government is forging ahead with the implementation of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) with three roads in Rusape being upgraded.

The adoption of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme has greatly improved the country’s road network with three roads in Rusape, which were gravelled being tarred.

The development has excited residents who are full of praise for the second republic for walking the talk on its inclusive development promise.

Local contractors are also appreciative of being granted contracts to rehabilitate roads ahead of foreign companies.

“We give credit and appreciate the government for awarding contracts to local companies. We are equally good as companies from other counties. We look forward to more contracts coming in and we will do that to the best of our ability. We are excited to be part of the nation-building projects. We are happy with the quality of our work and even the engineers supervising the work are happy with our work ethic,” said Talcourt Construction representative, Mr Makomborero Muzhingi.

Manicaland Provincial Engineer Patrick Muropa outlined the scope of road rehabilitation projects being done in Rusae.

“We are finishing old Magamba Road. We are happy with the progress recorded. As you can see we are now tarring this road. This is one of the three roads that we are tarring in Rusape following the decision by the government to take over the roads from the town council. As the Department of Roads, we are upgrading the roads from gravel roads to tarred roads. So far we have Castle base-Magamba road that was recently completed. We also have Vengere Loop road which will be completed in August this year,” he said.

The construction of Chipinge’s Mt Selinda Road is also underway with the Birchnough-Murambinda road also among key road construction projects in the province.
