THE Government has pledged to ensure the completion of the broadcasting industry’s digitalisation programme.
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Media, Information and Broadcasting Services embarked on a familiarisation tour of ZBC’s Pockets Hill studios in Harare this Monday.
ZBC Board Chairperson, Ms Helliate Rushwaya noted the importance of the familiarisation tour towards the completion of the digitalisation project.
“As ZBC, we are very happy with the tour made by the parliamentary portfolio committee because it will ensure they have first-hand experience of how we operate and that will be easy for them to come up with correct initiatives in pushing ahead the digitalisation programme so that our clients will get the best of our programmes,” she said.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, Honourable Caston Matewu highlighted the need to urgently work on cooperate governance and the retooling of the national broadcaster.
“We are very happy today to be here to familiarise with the institution. I would want to appreciate the staff for carrying out the national mandate.
“Now that we are conversant with the operations of ZBC, we are now going back to give a feedback to parliament and see how we will work to forge ahead with the digitalisation programme.
“We have also noticed that there is equipment which also need to be boosted especially the OB’s. It is now easy for us to compel different government ministries to act accordingly,” said Honourable Matewu.
A total of 18 transmitters have so far been installed around the country under the digitalisation programme.
