Government on a drive to promote industrialisation

Story by Lisa Masuku

AS the nation works on promoting the Education 5.0 Model to meet the needs of industry and propel the country’s industrialisation drive, the government has ordered tertiary institutions not to rollout courses and programmes that do not promote the production of goods and services.

Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Permanent Secretary, Professor Fanuel Tagwira said this at the Blended Education College of Southern Africa (BECSA) graduation ceremony in Bulawayo this Thursday where over 200 students graduated.

“All Higher and Tertiary Education Institutions be it private or public have been directed to review their programmes with all programmes that do not produce goods and services be dropped,” said Professor Tagwira.

The Second Republic through its open-door policy has afforded private players an opportunity to play a role in the education sector.

BECSA director, Ms Rosemary Sibanda said, “Our institution does not discriminate; we have transformed lives because of our inclusivity policy. We are looking at changing the lives of students. We are responding to the NDS1 of human capital development.”

The government through the Education 5.0 Model seeks to produce industrialists who solve socio-economic problems as the nation journeys towards an upper middle-income society by 2030.
