THE government says it values foreign media houses based in Zimbabwe as they are critical in the country’s quest to tell the true Zimbabwean story as part of the nation-building drive.
The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere engaged journalists from foreign media houses in Harare this Monday with the need to inform the citizenry on gains and developments under the Second Republic taking centre stage.
“The government is doing a lot in terms of development so foreign media have a role to play and tell the correct Zimbabwean story. It is the role of the media both locally and in foreign media houses to inform the citizenry of what we have achieved as a nation not to focus on challenges only. Focus on national development. The image of Zimbabwe is of paramount importance. We should tell a good story about Zimbabwe and report accurately,” said the Minister.
Dr Muswere also revealed that the government’s open-door policy extends to foreign media houses.
“As the government, we are going to create a portal in which the information is going to be shared not for journalists to jostle for strategic positions. The media will have an opportunity to tap what is happening and the issue of jostling of positions will be a thing of the past,” he said.
Meanwhile, foreign media journalists were advised to make the necessary arrangements to cover the ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference set for Gweru from the 27th to the 28th of this month.
