THE Computer Society of Zimbabwe 2023 ICT Conference ended in Victoria Falls with the government reaffirming its commitment to developing the information communication technology sector through crafting a conducive policy framework that attracts more investments.

Zimbabwe is making significant strides in increasing the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) through the use of a Universal Service Fund to deploy and redeploy base stations to close the urban-rural digital divide.

Speaking at the Computer Society of Zimbabwe 2023 ICT Conference, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Honourable Tatenda Mavetera said the government will continue with the push to ensure increased use of ICTs in the country.

“In addition to infrastructure development, we are continuously reviewing policy frameworks to adapt to emerging technologies. Our door remains open for recommendations and suggestions for the review of policies such as the National ICT Policy and the National Broadband plan among other policies,” she said.

She added, “The Zimbabwean government has recognised the importance of ICT in driving economic growth and has implemented various initiatives aimed at promoting its adoption by local businesses. Efforts have been made to improve broadband connectivity across the country through partnerships with telecommunications companies. The government has also launched programs to support capacity building in ICT skills among entrepreneurs, students, and professionals.”

The Computer Society of Zimbabwe 2023 ICT conference was a platform for people in the sector to share ideas as well as to keep abreast with new trends in technology.

“The main objective of the conference is to educate our members, to be able to derive information from various speakers, to learn from computer societies from other countries. We are saying come and learn, come and network, come and learn what other ICT practitioners are doing,” said Computer Society of Zimbabwe President, Ms Joice Benza.

With the global market characterized by rapid technological advancements, embracing digital transformation is key for businesses to thrive in Zimbabwe.
