ZIMBABWE and Pakistan are exploring new ways of expanding bilateral relations in various areas which include defence and the manufacturing sector.
Engaging with the diplomatic community in Harare to commemorate Pakistan National Day in Harare this Tuesday, the Middle East country’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Murad Baseer expressed confidence in the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement agenda that saw Harare opening a mission in Islamabad earlier this year.
“My country is confident of Zimbabwe’s Second Republic’s engagement agenda that has welcomed us and is pushing to develop our ties beyond politics to socio-economic ties for development between the two countries,’ he said.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Deputy Minister, Dr Sheilla Chikomo said the ties that exist between the two countries should extend to trade.
“Zimbabwe and Pakistan have agreed to sign an MOU on political and diplomatic ties. I am glad that the MOU is now ready, and a ceremony will be held very soon. Zimbabwe and Pakistan also share deep ties in defence, Pakistan has a training programme for the Airforce of Zimbabwe and officers from the ZDF are seconded in Islamabad, therefore, the relation between our two countries remains commendable. We are now looking to increase trade relations between the two friendly countries for development.”
Zimbabwe and Pakistan share cordial relations that date back to the colonial era and the struggle for independence.
