South African authorities step up efforts to introduce renewable energy sources

TV BRICS – The South African government is stepping up efforts to introduce new generating facilities based on renewable energy sources. This is how the country’s authorities are implementing a strategy to ensure energy security. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to South African Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the government is focused on the long term perspective and is taking measures to commission new generating facilities based on renewable energy sources to ensure that there will be no problems with energy supply to the country’s communities in the future.

According to the head of the South African Ministry of Energy, there are about 120 projects with a total capacity of 12,000 megawatts (MW) underway. A “one-stop shop” has been created for developers of such facilities so that they do not have to apply to several departments and waste time on bureaucratic procedures.

Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says energy sector reform has already started to yield results in practice.
