THE Second Republic’s target of having at least one health centre per rural ward has set the tone for an inclusive public health system.

The move by the Second Republic to expand the public health system has won the hearts of many in Beitbridge, who believe the nation has covered much ground towards achieving universal health coverage.

Having seen the construction of Dumba, Tshabili and Mazunga clinics, among many others funded by central government through devolution funds, the Beitbridge community says the second republic has surpassed expectations.

A villager said, ‘‘The undertaken projects especially in the health sector are so exciting. We are grateful to President Mnangagwa’s government for such people-centred projects.’’

Another noted, ‘‘Now distances to service centres have been drastically reduced, and many lives will be saved in the process.’’

According to Chief Tshitaudze, the improved quality of health services in rural areas also reduces pressure on referral hospitals.

Chief Tshitsaudze noted, ‘‘Over the past three or so years we have seen a blitz on infrastructure development which also focused on building new clinics. This is a job well done by our government as key indicators like accessibility, availability and quality are addressed.’’

Government has constantly increased budgetary allocations to local authorities and development implementers to meet its NDS1 targets.
