Boost for WASH project in Hwange

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

RESIDENTS of Chief Mvuthu’s area in Hwange District can now celebrate improved access to clean water, thanks to the commissioning of two boreholes in the community.

The initiative is a significant boost to government’s vision of establishing at least one nutritional garden in every village.

The leadership is convinced that the boreholes, which are a result of a partnership between Doves Holdings and the local community, will improve the area’s water security and pave way for the development of horticultural projects.

“We have a piece of land nearby which we have earmarked for a nutritional garden. With this support from Doves, it is now a reality and soon we will be growing our own food here,” said Village Head, Vukuzenzele Village, Ward three, Mr Wozani Mpofu.

“Water is life, what Doves has done will certainly improve water supply for both villagers and livestock. Water is generally a challenge this side since it is a dry region,” noted Acting Chief Mvuthu, Mr Bishop Matata.

Hwange Rural District Council, Ward 3 Councillor, Givemeagain Moyo weighed in saying, “There is a ready market in Victoria Falls, with this water supply, villagers here can now grow various horticulture crops and earn a living. We thank Doves for this water project.”

Doves Holdings says it will continue to partner communities in various projects.

“We are heeding the President’s call to ensure that water is within 500m reach of every citizen in Zimbabwe. So this is our small way to be part of this community , the beginning of greater things we are going to do for the Chisuma community and Victoria Falls,” noted Doves Holdings Group, Public Relations Manager, Mr Innocent Tshuma.

The story is a positive example of how infrastructure development can address basic needs and empower communities.
