MASVINGO province is set to host the Second Edition of the National Diaspora Investment Conference and Homecoming Event which gets underway this Thursday.
The conference is a platform to rally the diaspora community to actively participate in the country’s economic development programmes.
The event which will run from Thursday to Saturday is part of government efforts to share information with the Diaspora community on available investment opportunities in the country.
In a media briefing ahead of the event, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honorable Ezra Chadzamira said the diaspora community is an important constituency in the development of the country.
“The hosting of the conference is a demonstration of the government’s desire to create avenues through which our citizens abroad, the Zimbabwean diaspora, can actively participate in the current development trajectory by investing in productive sectors of the economy.
“As you are aware, over the past years, our diaspora has been contributing immensely to the development of the economy through financial and social remittances. Financial remittances have increased by 13% to a total of US$1.8 billion in 2023 up from US$ 1.6 billion in 2022 and for this, we applaud them.”
The conference seeks to harness Zimbabweans in the diaspora community to participate in national development and sustained economic growth.
