Zimbabwe commits to consolidating historic relations with Nigeria

Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga says the country will always look for ways to consolidate cordial relations between Zimbabwe and Nigeria.

The Vice President, who is representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja this Sunday morning where he was received by Zimbabwe’s Envoy to Nigeria, Ambassador Maxwell Ranga and other government officials.

He is accompanied by the Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya.

With Zimbabwe and Nigeria cooperating in the areas of defence, tourism and trade, Vice President Chiwenga noted that these deep relations dating back to the days of the liberation struggle need to be consolidated in line with the National Development Strategy One.

President-elect Bola Tinubu will be sworn in this Monday at a ceremony expected to be attended by representatives of more than 50 countries.

Nigeria held its elections on the 25th of February this year with President-elect Tinubu winning 37 per cent of the votes cast, with his rival Atiku Abubakar polling 29 per cent and Labour Party’s Peter Obi getting 25 per cent.

The former governor of Lagos campaigned under the slogan ‘It’s My Turn’ and is widely accredited for reshaping Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.
