Zimbabwe celebrates signing of Unity Accord

Story by John Nhandara

ZANU PF national chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri says the signing of the Unity Accord in 1987 marked the birth of a unified, prosperous and democratic country.

As Zimbabwe marks Unity Day celebrated on the 22nd of December every year, Cde Muchinguri Kashiri said the day doused the flames of disunity and armed conflicts that had afflicted the nation.

In a statement, Cde Muchinguri Kashiri said Zimbabwe has emerged as a symbol of enduring peace and stability as a result of the Unity Accord.

She further states that the Unity Accord is testimony that the process of inclusion and integration is the cornerstone to protecting Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

She also noted that the Second Republic has made tremendous progress toward promoting unity, peace and development.

Cde Muchinguri Kashiri quotes African great statesman Kwame Nkrumah’s statement that says: ‘the forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart’ concerning the country’s unquestionable national unity and sense of fortitude in the face of threats to the country’s independence and national security.
