Zim- Spelling Bee team returns home

THE young spellers, who represented the country well at the Africa Spelling Bee Competitions 2023 in Uganda returned home this Sunday.
Coming back home to a heroes’ welcome after their exploits in Uganda, the talented youngsters who raised the country’s flag high after scooping awards in junior and senior categories, returned to Zimbabwe this Sunday.
The spellers registered a successful outing at the continental competition with Claudia Jean Madhombiro and Tashinga Chereni bagging two bronze medals for Zimbabwe.
“I’m glad that I was able to put Zimbabwe on the map and happy that I managed to get this position because of the practice that we put in as a team,” said Madhombiro.
Chereni said, “I’m not only representing myself but the country as a whole and I think to come back in this position puts the country out there in a good light.”
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Spelling Bee believes that the successful outing in Uganda is a sign of greater prospects lying ahead.
Zimbabwe Spelling Bee – National coordinator, Eneresi Chomsora said, “This is a very good foundation, and we believe 2024 will be a very good year for us. We call on more schools to register and we can conquer the world as well.”
Six players who were heavily supported by the Zimbabwe Spelling Bee and some parents made the trip to Uganda to represent the nation at the continental showpiece.
The young spellers repaid the support as they won two bronze medals in the junior and senior categories.
