Zim-Brazil bilateral relations soar

Story by Farai Gwaze

Strengthening bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Brazil took centre stage when Brazil’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Vilmar Rogeiro Countinho paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda in Harare this Tuesday.

Emerging from the engagement, Ambassador Countinho noted the need for the two countries to continue fostering cordial relations, after Brazil and Zimbabwe conducted elections recently.

“When I arrived here last year there was an ongoing electoral process in my country and upon those elections having passed and that has also happened this side we have a good opportunity to further relations,” he said.

With agriculture considered key in improving trade relations between the two friendly nations, prospects to develop new focus areas are also being explored.

“The prospects between us are good, agriculture being a key area but not the only one. Brazil should not think of Zimbabwe just as a market, we looking at establishing relationships and associations. There will also be a group of Zimbabwean artists going to Brazil soon on an exchange, especially with the national gallery of Zimbabwe,” he added.

The Second Republic has adopted the engagement and reengagement policy to improve relations with the international community and attract investment in various economic sectors.
