THE eagerly anticipated Zim-Afro T10 cricket tournament will be held from the 20th to the 29th of July at Harare Sports Club.
The global 10-over cricket event will debut in Zimbabwe with six privately owned franchises that are named after African cities.
The tournament is a partnership between Zimbabwe Cricket and T Ten Global Sports and comes after six successful seasons of T10 cricket in Abu Dhabi and Afghanistan.
A first of its kind in Zimbabwe and Africa in general, the inaugural tournament hopes to capture the imagination of fans in the country and beyond by bringing some of the best cricketers from across the world to the city of Harare.
“We are very excited now that everything is in order, the tournament will capture the imagination of Zimbabwe and the beauty about T10 is that it is short, fast-paced and played in just 90 minutes like football so we are very happy that the global phenomenon that has been doing wonders all over is coming to Zimbabwe,” noted Zimbabwe Cricket Media and Communication manager, Darlington Majonga.
The Zim-Afro T10 tournament was launched on the 14th of April at a colourful event in Harare.
Three of the franchisees have already been bought with the Durban Franchise set to be owned by the owners of the Pakistani-based team Qalanders.
The fixtures will be announced in due course while the players will be announced after a player auction that is set for next month.
